A voltage relay monitors the supply voltage and disconnects the connected load when voltage goes above or below the safe operating range. You need a voltage relay when your equipment — pumps, compressors, motors, HVAC systems, refrigeration units — is sensitive to overvoltage, undervoltage or neutral failure. In India, where voltage fluctuations are common, a voltage relay protects appliances from damage and reduces downtime. Single-phase voltage relays (RN series) protect single-phase loads; three-phase voltage relays (RNPP series) also detect phase loss, phase sequence faults and phase imbalance in three-phase systems.

A motor protection relay continuously measures the motor current through current transformers (CTs) and monitors supply voltage quality. An automatic phase selector (APS) monitors all three incoming phases simultaneously and automatically switches the supply to the healthiest available phase when the active phase fails or degrades. It is used wherever three-phase supply is unreliable — pumping stations, water treatment plants, agricultural borewell pumps, cold storage facilities and industrial units in areas with frequent phase cuts. The PEF-301, PEF-319 and PEF-320 models from Novatek Electro can switch between phases within milliseconds, keeping single-phase loads running even when one or two phases are down.

Both are three-phase voltage monitoring relays but differ in their monitoring scope. The RNPP-302M monitors overvoltage, undervoltage, phase loss and phase sequence for standard three-phase circuits. The RNPP-311M adds asymmetry (phase imbalance) detection and has wider voltage setting ranges, making it suitable for more demanding industrial applications where supply quality varies significantly.
